Modular Home Generator Solution | San Jose, CA

Twin Generators modified for Natural Gas with quick release connections to Utility fuel Supply and Transfer Switch.

With wildfire mitigating blackouts becoming policy for PG&E in Northern California, my client needed a home electrical generator solution to provide emergency power. Notably the client needed extra capacity in the system to maintain cooling for a large wine collection.

We modified a pair of portable Honda “Companion” Generators to accept utility natural gas and energize a convenient, permanently installed transfer switch to provide emergency power to four refrigerators.

Initial bids from fixed solution providers like Kohler and Generac were more expensive than the client desired and greatly exceeded their minimum requirements. An audit of their actual needs revealed that their target wattage could be achieved with portable generators, however typical operation with long extension cords and gasoline containers was not desired.

We developed a hybrid solution that has the convenience in fuel delivery and electrical distribution of a fixed installation; with the the low cost and ease of maintenance of a portable unit. In order to further simplify long term maintenance, we went with a pair of smaller “companion” units working together, small and light enough for them to be transported by a single person especially for service.
