South St. Seaport | NY, NY
This site model of New York's South Street Seaport uses the precision of the CNC Mill to better illustrate the proximity of infrastructure to deep water on one of the most exposed locations on Manhattan Island. By milling the top panel upside down we were able to incorporate the piers as one component along with locating the dowel pilings that would interface perfectly with the corresponding millwork in the opaque white plastic below. Wood veneer was then lastercut and adhered to the panels surface giving us a scaled curb to delineate our streets, sidewalks, and property lines. Magnets were hidden under this venner and were used to hold down and protect the delicate laser cut viaduct model made by Sky. Additionally they were used to remove the block that would allow for different final models to either sit or slot into the site.
